Ranchi : There is an air of excitement in St Xavier’s College as its high-profile student Mahendra Singh Dhoni prepares to lead the Indian cricket team in the World Cup starting Feb 19.
The students and faculty members of the college consider Dhoni a “lucky mascot” of the team and are hopeful that he will lead India to success in the mega-event.
“This is the first time that India will play the World Cup under Dhoni’s leadership. We have high hopes from our home town boy. This Indian team has done well under his captaincy,” said Rajesh Sen, a St Xavier’s student from where Dhoni is doing his graduation.
Echoing his view, another student Amar Rai said: “India won the first Twenty20 World Championship under Dhoni and we are confident that this time we will win the World Cup after 28 years.”
Even the teachers of the college are singing paens of praise for Dhoni.
“Dhoni has emerged as a lucky mascot of the Indian team and we have high hopes from him in the World Cup,” said Jayant Sinha, Dean of St Xavier’s college.
