Temperatures rise in Jammu and Kashmir, but cold stays

Srinagar : The minimum temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir rose Thursday after weeks of harsh winter chill, but things may be different as the weatherman Thursday forecast rain and snow at isolated places in the Kashmir Valley.

“Rain and snow will occur at isolated places across the Kashmir Valley during the next 48 hours,” a weather official here told IANS.

“The minimum temperature was 3 degrees Celsius in Srinagar while it was 11.5 degrees in Jammu,” the official said.

“In south Kashmir’s Pahalgam hill station, the minimum was one degree below freezing point while it was minus 2.4 degrees in north Kashmir’s Gulmarg ski resort,” he said.

“Leh and Kargil towns in Ladakh region of the state had minus 9.6 degrees and minus 12 degrees minimum temperatures respectively,” the official said.

Sub-zero temperatures prevailed in parts of the state in the past few weeks.
