Thiruvananthapuram : The Congress-led opposition in Kerala Wednesday submitted to Governor R.S. Gavai a memorandum signed by one crore people of the state against the non-performance of the ruling Left Front government.
Leader of Opposition Oommen Chandy told IANS Wednesday that he got more than one crore people endorsing a charge sheet prepared by the opposition parties against the V.S. Achuthanandan government during his state-wide march.
Chandy completed the march in the capital Tuesday night after covering all the 140 assembly constituencies of the state.
He said during the nearly month-long march he could gauge the people’s frustration over the non-performance of the government.
The memorandum with appended signatures of the people was so huge that it was taken in an open jeep to Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the governor.
All the top leaders from the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) were part of the delegation that met the governor.
Speaking to reporters after meeting the governor, Chandy said the Achuthanandan government has failed miserably in doing it duty.
“The government has lost the confidence of the people as there is total breakdown in all fronts of administration. It has to go,” the Congress leader and former chief minister said.
Chandy’s state wide march is seen as the UDF’s launch of its campaign for the coming assembly polls. The current government’s term will end May 17.
