New Delhi : The much awaited India-Japan comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA) will be signed Feb 16 in Tokyo, Commerce Minister Anand Sharma said Thursday.
“On (Feb) 16, we will be in Tokyo to formally sign the agreement,” Sharma said in his address at the inauguration of the two-day International Engineering and Technology Fair being held here.
According to Sharma, India took decisions during tough times in the international economic environment to reach out to other economies for co-operation.
He also praised Japanese co-operation in the Delhi-Mumbai freight and industrial corridors and said that firms of both the countries can come together to harness the enormous untapped potential in India, especially in the infrastructure sector.
Apart from signing CEPA with Japan, India would also be inking an comprehensive economic cooperation agreement (CECA) with Malaysia in the same week.
“Next day (Feb 17), travel to Kuala Lumpur to sign the agreement with Malaysia,” Sharma said.
Earlier, India and Japan concluded negotiations on CEPA last year. Prime Minister Mamohan Singh described the conclusion as a “historic achievement” which will bring two of the largest economies of Asia more closer.
