Islamabad : A Pakistani city will soon have eunuchs as officials who would collect outstanding water supply dues.
Up to 10 eunuchs will be recruited as recovery officers in Sialkot city in Punjab province.
The eunuch community has welcomed the move and assured that each and every rupee of government dues would be recovered and deposited with the public exchequer, Express Tribune reported Friday.
The authorities said the eunuchs would be hired on contract basis. This would be the first time that eunuchs would be recruited to official posts in Sialkot.
Pervaiz Iqbal Butt, an official, said the decision had been taken keeping in view the poor performance of the recovery staff.
Arrears have mounted to Rs.20 million due to the poor performance of recovery staff.
Butt said they would offer a handsome package to the eunuchs with performance-based bonuses.
He said the eunuchs would conduct a door-to-door campaign to recover outstanding dues.
The official added that the hiring would be on merit.
Eunuchs’ guru, Ishrat Parveen alias Reema, said Thursday that the eunuchs would ensure that all outstanding dues were recovered and deposited with the public exchequer.
