Kerala celebrates fall of Hosni Mubarak

Malappuram: The fall of Hosni Mubarak from the presidency of the country after 30 years was indeed a matter of celebration for Egyptians. The people of Kerala also took part in the joy of Egypt at the overthrow of autocracy through non-violent struggle. Demonstrations and other programmes were held all over Kerala to celebrate the downfall of Mubarak in Egypt.

The victory of the popular revolution in Egypt is a strong warning to all the anti-democratic governments in the Middle East, said Shihab Pookkottur, state president of the Students Islamic Organisation. He was addressing a rally organized jointly by the members of the SIO and the Solidarity at Tirur to congratulate the revolutionaries of Egypt and other countries. The SIO and the Solidarity organized rallies and marches in several places in the local and unit levels.

The Popular Front of India expressed its joy at the fall of Mubarak by several rallies, marches and demonstrations all over the state. Demonstrations were held at different places in Malappuram, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Kannur and Kozhikode districts. The members of the organisation who took part in the rallies raised slogans praising the revolutionaries of the ‘Jasmine Revolution’.
