Tension grips UP town over flag at a mazar

Lucknow: Tension gripped after some policemen allegedly removed a flag from a mazar situated inside the police station in Marhara police station in Etah district in UP on Wednesday. The case relates to the mazar of Syed Wale Baba situated inside the police station Marhara in Etah. On the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi devotees including local Muslims had put a flag at the mazar.

However, the flag was removed and thrown away by the in-charge of the local police station. The news spread like wildfire and hundreds of Muslims gheraoed the police station demanding action against the in-charge of the police station. Making situation worse, the police used force to dispel the crowd which retaliated by pelting stones and damaged vehicles including two police jeeps. Soon extra force was rushed to the spot from Etah police headquarters which is around 20 kms from the police station.

Good sense prevailed and the senior police officials removed the in-charge Vinod Kumar from the station and shifted him to reserve police lines. The flag was also restored to its position. Normalcy was restored after the police officials assured that further action will be taken against the guilty officials.
