Malabar Mahotsavam ends with ‘Badarul Muneer-Husnul Jamal’ on stage

Kozhikode: The cultural festival of Malabar-Arabia- China bid adieu to the sands and waves of Kozhikode last day. However, on the last day the Malabar Festival brought to cultural Kerala a novel experience by the dramatization of ‘Badarul Muneer-Husnul Jamal’, the celebrated ‘mappilappattu’ of the great poet Moin Kutty Vaidyar.

Famous lyricist Kaithaprom Damodaran Namboothiri inaugurated the valedictory function singing the special lines he wrote about Kozhikode. Mayor AK Premajam presided over the function in which script-writer TA Razaq delivered the chief address. Those who were in the forefront to organize the festival were honoured and given presents at the function. Kozhikode district Collector Dr PB Saleem released the book ‘Badarul Muneer-Husnul Jamal’ written by Ibrahim Vengara, handing over a copy to Navas Poonoor, editor of ‘Chandrika’ daily.

Ibrahim Vengara’s drama ‘Badarul Muneer-Husnul Jamal’, based on the work of great poet Moin Kutty Vaidyar, was staged by Chiranthana Theatres. The poem is about the love of Princess Husnul Jamal and Muneer, son of a minister in the King’s palace. The love-birds who can’t stay apart decide to run away, but the princess is kidnapped by a fisherman. At last a group of ‘jinns’ take Muneer to his beloved and the love-birds get married. KC Tommy, Lakshmi Shanker, Ibrahim Kutty, Babu Parasseri and Savithri Raveendran enacted the main characters. Dr MK Muneer, Biju Narayanan, Kannur Shareef and Sibila Sadanandan sang to the music of VM Kutty.
