Chennai : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Monday raided the residence of D.S. Murthy who was Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to former union health minister Anbumani Ramadoss, the son of PMK founder S. Ramadoss.
The CBI team from New Delhi conducted the search at the former intelligence officer Murthy’s residence to verify his role in getting permission for a private medical college in Indore in Madhya Pradesh.
Anbumani Ramadoss was the union health minister during 2004-2009 – the first tenure of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and Murthy was his OSD then.
A case has been registered by CBI against Murthy in connection with this case.
Last year a CBI team had come here to raid Murthy’s residence, but as the latter was not in station, the house was sealed by the investigative agency.
On Monday morning, a CBI team accompanied by Murthy came to the residence and the seal was broken.
The CBI conducted the raid till evening and the officials refused to divulge details. The CBI officials here too were tight lipped.
The timing of the raid has surprised the political circles in the state as only recently PMK was admitted into the DMK front, allotting 31 assembly seats and one Rajya Sabha seat.
DMK chief M. Karunanidhi had earlier said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi had told him to be wary of admitting the PMK into the fold.
Subsequently Anbumani Ramadoss had gone to Delhi and met Gandhi following which PMK and DMK signed an electoral pact.
The DMK’s former union communications Minister A. Raja is in jail for alleged irregularities in allocation of 2G spectrum to telecom companies.
