Raipur : Accusing Chhattisgarh’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of “completely failing” to make headway in the murder of a journalist last December, the opposition Congress staged a walkout from the assembly Monday.
The Congress members put the treasury benches under a severe attack for failing to track down killers of Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar’s Sushil Pathak, who was gunned down in Bilaspur town by unidentified people Dec 20, 2010 while returning home from a late night shift.
The ruling party countered the Congress charges with Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar informing the assembly that one person has been arrested in the case and the murder will be solved soon.
In response, the Congress members said that the arrested person has nothing to do with the journalist’s murder and if the government was serious on the issue, then it should hand over the case to Central Bureau of Investigation as the case is linked to a contract killing.
Congress member Dharamjeet Singh said that Pathak’s killing has created a major concern in entire journalists’ fraternity in the state and media persons are now highly concerned about their safety.
As Kanwar ruled out a CBI enquiry, the Congress members walked out of the house.
