New Delhi: Home secretaries of India and Pakistan are all set to meet next month with New Delhi proposing two sets of dates in March for the bilateral talks in which issues like terrorism, the 26/11 Mumbai attack trial and demand for voice samples of some accused are expected to figure.
India has suggested to Pakistan that the meeting between their home secretaries could take place either on March 21 and 22 or on March 28 and 29.
Home Secretary G.K. Pillai extended the invitation to his Pakistan counterpart Chaudhry Qamar Zaman last week and India is still awaiting a response from Pakistan, official sources said here Monday.
The meeting is likely to be held in India and it will be the first structured bilateral secretary-level talks on terrorism after the two countries decided to resume their comprehensive dialogue on all pending matters after a two-year break following the Mumbai attacks.
Pillai had only last week said that India would ask Pakistan on the progress made by it in the probe into the Mumbai terror attacks. India has also been demanding voice samples of 26/11 prime accused such as Lashkar-e-Taiba’s Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi and others, who gave instructions to the 10 terrorists when the attacks on the megapolis were in progress.
A Rawalpindi court is hearing a case against Lakhvi and six of his accomplices, charged with planning and facilitating the Mumbai terror strikes in which 166 people lost their lives.
