SIO leaders congratulate Jamia VC on minority status

New Delhi: The Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) has welcomed the decision of the National Commission for Minority Educational Institution (NCMEI) to grant minority status to Jamia Millia Islamia University.

Secretary General of SIO P M Salih led a delegation of the organization and met the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia University Najeeb Jung and congratulated him on the achievement and all those who put their efforts in attaining the minority status for Jamia.



Salih said, “JMI hold a special stature in academic arena of the country and the minority status uphold the nature of the university in the educational fraternity in India and abroad.”

“SIO since its inception has been striving for the welfare and justice of the student community and education in India irrespective of religion, cast and community” said Salih.

Vice Chancellor Najeeb Jung expressed his gratitude for the support shown by SIO on the issue of the minority status of JMI.

Vice Chancellor Najeeb Jung said, “We appreciate the efforts of SIO and will surely extend all necessary support whenever sought.”

SIO for last several years has been supporting the cause of minority status of JMI. It has taken up the issue with HRD Minster Kapil Sibal, General Secretary of Congress Party, Rahul Gandhi and Minister of Minority Affairs Salman Khurshid and several others from bureaucracy and educationists.

The delegation which met Vice Chancellor included Shoukath Ali, Shariq Ansar, Secretaries, SIO, Ajmal V, President SIO JMI Zone, Aneesurrahman, Zonal President SIO New Delhi and other students of JMI.
