The ruling military council – the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces – said the people returned via the Salloum border crossing.

Authorities also ran 12 flights from Libya to Egypt Friday to evacuate Egyptians from the country, Mohamed Abdel-Hakam, assistant foreign minister for consular affairs, expatriates, immigration and refugees, was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

The ministry is seeking to run 30 flights Saturday to carry Egyptians from the cities of Sirte and Tripoli, he said.

The military council said it was sending two ships to Tunisia to bring home Egyptians who arrived there after fleeing from Libya. The two Egyptian naval forces ships have sailed from the ports of Alexandria and el-Saloum.

Over one million Egyptians are working in Libya, most of them in the construction and trade sectors.
