New Delhi: It is expected, that eyeing Muslim votes in the context of coming assembly elections in West Bengal, Assam, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, the Finance Minister, Pranab Mukherjee will announce debt relief package for the weavers, a Muslim concentrated profession.
On Wednesday, a Congress delegation led by its general secretary Rahul Gandhi, met the Finance Minster and demanded relief package for weavers. A large part of weaving community comes from Utter Pradesh which will go to polls next year and Congress party led by its prince Mr. Gandhi, wants to consolidate its position in the state. Concession for items related to weavers like silk and cotton is also expected from the budget announcements tomorrow.
It is expected that like rail budget, which was also termed as “poll manifesto” of Trinmool Congress, even the General Budget is expected to be a populist and election budget particularly in the context of coming assembly elections in several states. States like Assam, West Bengal and Kerala have substantial number of minority voters and thereby Mr. Mukherjee is expected to announce a series of measures to woo them.
