Tim Bresnan reprimanded, England fined

By IANS,

Bangalore : England’s Tim Bresnan has been officially reprimanded for breaching the International Cricket Council’s code of conduct during his side’s tied match against India in the World Cup Sunday.

The incident took place on the last ball of the 48th over when Bresnan, after he was clean bowled by Piyush Chawala, hit the stumps with his bat.

Bresnan, who took five wickets and struck a crucial 14 runs, pleaded guilty to contravening level 1 offence of the ICC code which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings”.

“As Bresnan accepted the decision without contest, there was no need for a hearing,” ICC said in a statement Monday.

Meanwhile, the England team was also fined for maintaining a slow over-rate in the same match.

The fines were imposed by match referee Roshan Mahanama after England were ruled to be one over short of their target at the end of the match when time allowances were taken into consideration.

As such, Strauss was fined 20 percent of his match fee while his players received 10 percent fines.
