New Delhi: The Delhi government will be setting up over a dozen new hospitals in the city within the next few years to cater to the increasing medical needs of the citizens.
At present, the national capital has 38 state-run government hospitals with 7,510 beds. The aim is to increase the number of beds to 10,000.
The decision was taken Wednesday at a high-level meeting headed by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
Officials said the government has decided to set up new 200-bed hospitals in Burari, Hastsal, Sarita Vihar, Chhatarpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Madipur, Jwalapuri and Bamnauli.
It has also been decided to set up 100-bed hospitals in Siraspur, Keshavpuram and Jaunti while two 50-bed hospitals have been planned at Molar Bund and Baprola.
Delhi has 2.5 beds against 1,000 people whereas the national average is 0.7.
