Mitra, elected from Araidanga in Malda district in 2006, joined the Trinamool recently.

Halim announced his decision after a hearing in which former Congress legislature party chief Manas Bhunia was also present.

A furious Mitra accused the speaker of violating the house rules and regulations.

“He has acted like a bully. I disagree with the verdict. Bhunia is no more the Congress legislature party leader. How could he be present (at the meeting)?” she asked.

Bhunia said it was “unethical and “illegal” to cross the floor after being elected in another party’s ticket.

Trinamool Congress heavyweight Partha Chattopadhyay disagreed with the speaker’s decision.
