Lucknow : A hidden stock of 7,000 kg of onion was Friday unearthed by income tax inspectors in a raid at a state-run vegetable marketing outlet (mandi) here.
The two wholesale dealers tried to intimidate the raiding party headed by IT Deputy Commissioner Neel Jain, but police intervened to put things under control.
“The traders locked the main gates of the mandi, so we had to use mild force,” Assistant Superintendent of Police Amit Pathak told IANS.
The raid was part of a simultaneous operation carried out in different parts of the state, including Kanpur, Varanasi, Bareilly, Meerut and Ghaziabad.
