Prominent Maoist leader Baburam Bhattarai also called on Krishna, Friday, pti reported.

The meetings come in the wake of New Delhi’s serious concerns over the situation in Nepal where the political parties have failed to even elect a new Prime Minister, let alone discuss a new constitution for the country.

‘As a close and friendly neighbour, India remains committed to the successful completion of peace process and establishment of multi-party democracy in Nepal,’ Krishna said.

During their meetings, the leaders are understood to have discussed the situation in their country.

‘Nepal is a friendly country. We want a broad consensus for a political process there so that they would be in a position to write the Constitution. India is certainly keeping close contact with Nepal because of our civilisational and historical ties with that country. We wish them well,’ Krishna said.

Meanwhile, a think-tank in the country is organising a two-day debate on a strategy for political reconciliation in Nepal which is expected to be attended by the Nepalese leaders across the spectrum.
