Hanoi : Four people died and five were missing after an overloaded boat capsized in a northern Vietnamese river, authorities said Friday.
Although the search for the missing continued Friday, authorities held out little hope of finding them alive.
“To be sure, the missing have died,” Mai Ngoc Phan, chairman of Tuyen Quang City, said after Wednesday’s accident on the Lo River in Tuyen Quang province, in which four people survived.
Phan, who is in charge of the search for the missing, said most of the victims were women and didn’t know how to swim. They were reportedly returning home from an engagement ceremony.
