Roads in upper Shimla were partially opened Tuesday after being blocked since Jan 15 because of the heavy snowfall in the region.

Deputy Commissioner of Shimla J.S. Rana told IANS that the roads up to Jeory from Shimla via Theog and Narkanda were reopened for the traffic but driving is still risky due to slush.

Similarly, the Shimla-Rohru road was reopened up to Kotkhai but Jubbal and Rohru were still cut off from the rest of the district due to heavy snow at Kharapatthar.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperature at many places hovered around the freezing point and the day temperatures remained five to nine degrees below average in mid and lower hills.

The state capital Shimla recorded a low of 2.1 degrees Celsius while Solan recorded a low of minus 0.4 degree and Sundernagar 0.1 degree.

Bhuntar and Dharamsala each recorded a low of 1.4 degrees, while Keylong and Kalpa in Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur districts settled for minus 11.4 degrees and minus 6.2 degrees, respectively.

Shimla recorded a high of 11 degrees, Dharamsala 13.2 degrees and Bhuntar 17.4 degrees.

The Met office has predicted mainly dry weather Wednesday.
