Buddhadeb should be punished: Mamata

By IANS,

Kolkata : After West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee admitted in New Delhi that a few armed groups existed in the state, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee Wednesday he should be punished for facilitating those armed groups.

Taking a dig at Bhattacharjee, Banerjee said that if a murderer doesn’t get away from the court of law by confessing his crime, then why should the chief minister get away with his admission.

“Does a murderer get away by confessing his crime in the court? They have committed so many crimes, killed so many people since last Lok Sabha polls, have made so many harmad camps. They should be punished for their crimes,” Banerjee, who is also the railway minister, told reporters here.

Bhatacharjee, while addressing mediapersons in New Delhi earlier Wednesday, said: “If there is armed violence then it proves that there are places were there are arms. Wherever the armed groups and arms might be located, whether its Junglemahal (forested stretches in the three western districts of West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia) area or any other part of the state, the state police and administration will not keep quiet after knowing their whereabouts.”

Banerjee and her party have repeatedly accused the state’s ruling Marxists of setting up armed camps in the state, especially in the insurgency hit areas, to control political turf. However, the Marxists have denied these allegations.
