Two Maoists, medicine supplier held in Chhattisgarh

By IANS,

Raipur : Two Maoists and a long time supplier of medicines to the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) were held in Chhattisgarh, police said Thursday.

“A medical shop owner, Arjun was arrested along with two Maoists when they were getting medical supply at Kirandul market in Dantewada district,” S.R.P. Kalluri, senior superintendent of police (Dantewada), told reporters.

Kalluri said that the arrests were made Wednesday based on specific intelligence inputs when five Maoists were receiving the consignment of medicines from Arjun at Kirandul, some 420 km south from here.

Kalluri said that though three Maoists managed to escape when police encircled them, two others were caught with medicines worth Rs.30,000.

He added that police were interrogating the medicine supplier and the two Maoists who belonged to a forested village in Bijapur district.

Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada is considered the worst Maoist insurgency-hit district of India where rebels had massacred 76 troopers in a single attack in April last year.
