Lucknow: The conservation work for Rumi Gate will commence from April 2011 and will be completed within eight months. Necessary traffic diversions will be enforced during the conservation work.
The historical Rumi Gate has developed cracks 13 years ago and lately they have widened to dangerous proposition posing danger to the gate. Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) had approached the district administration urging for necessary traffic diversion to start restoration process for the gate.

A meeting in this regard was held at collectorate on Thursday 20th Jan. 2011. District Magistrate (DM) AK Sagar ensured that traffic diversions will be done and the restoration work will thus start from April 2011. “It will be completed in eight months time,” said Sagar.
The DM also issued directives to remove all encroachments from protected monuments. “We are targeting those monuments also from which religious activities are being carried out,” he said.
The official spokesperson of the district administration informed newsmen that in the first phase that will begin from February 8 encroachments will be removed from protected monuments. This will be followed by the second phase from February 21 when encroachments will be removed from those protected monuments where religious activities are undertaken. “The ASI will submit their proposal in this regard by January 31 so that necessary arrangements are done,” said the DM Sagar.
Lucknow has a total of 56 protected monuments and 24 of them have been encroached. “We will remove all the encroachments as per the directives of Central Act and directives of Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court,” said ADM City, OP Pathak.
