Kanpur : A lawyer who ended his life by hanging himself at his home here Thursday blamed the rampant corruption in the Uttar Pradesh government for his drastic step, according to a suicide note found by his family members.
“I am being driven to end my life because there is none to listen to the gross injustice being meted out to my wife Uma, a teacher in a government school in Farrukhabad, who has been suspended simply because we could not pay bribes to the people in the education department,” Vinay Kumar Yadav, 40, wrote in the note.
He alleged “complete apathy” on the part of Farrukhabad legislator and Health Minister Anant Kumar Mishra.
“I approached the local Farrukhabad MLA (Mishra) to help revoke my wife’s baseless suspension, but he too refused to help; so I am left with no option but to end my life,” he said in the note.
His family members and friends staged a demonstration on the streets seeking action against Mishra.
Mishra however said he had no recollection of any such request.
“I do not remember anyone coming to me with any such plea,” he said.
