Four-year-old killed in Delhi accident

New Delhi : A four-year-old boy was killed and his mother injured after a speeding tempo hit them here Thursday evening, police said.

The accident took place in Mangolpuri area in north Delhi at around 5.30 p.m. when the tempo driver took a sharp turn at an intersection near B block.

“The tempo hit Sohail and his mother Vasila, who were on their way to pick up Sohail’s elder brother from a government school. The kid bled profusely and his mother suffered minor injuries,” a police officer said.

They were rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital where Sohail was declared brought dead and his mother was discharged after treatment.

Meanwhile, the crowd detained the driver, Anil Kumar, 30, and handed him over to police.

“Anil, a resident of Nangloi, told police that he could not see the kid and his mother and the accident happened unknowingly. He accepted that he was speeding,” the officer said.

“Javed, the kid’s father, works as a daily wage labour in Mangolpuri. We have impounded the vehicle and have sent the boy’s body for post-mortem,” the officer added.
