Mumbai : The Indian Navy Friday commissioned its fourth fleet tanker INS Deepak – a state-of-the-art refuelling vessel built by an Italian firm – boosting its deep striking and strategic capabilities.
With the commissioning of the tanker, warships of the Indian Navy will be able to operate for more prolonged periods without returning to harbour for replenishment and refuelling.
Defence Minister A.K. Antony commissioned the ship, built in a record 27 months by Italian shipyard Fincantieri.
