Gang responsible for several murders busted

New Delhi: The notorious Pahalwan gang, allegedely responsible for several murders in Delhi, has been busted with the arrest of seven people, including its kingpin, police said Monday.

The arrested have been identified as the kingpin, Naveen Khati alias Pahalwan, 35, Arvind, 34, Naresh, 32, Vijay Kumar, 22, Vikas, 22, Sandeep, 24 – all residents of Mitraon village, and Naresh, of Dinpur.

“They were apprehended first for allegedly killing two brothers – Suresh and Satender – of Papravat village in Najafgarh area Dec 20. During interrogation, they disclosed that they also killed Pardeep Kumar of Najafgarh Sep 13 last year over personal enmity,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Railways) Ashok Chand.

The gang members allegedly gunned down businessmen brothers Suresh and Satender near Rao Maan Singh School in Najafgarh area.

After inquiries, police came to know that Pahalwan gang was involved in the killings.

“We came to know Saturday that Naveen, Vikas and Arvind, who had various times hidden in Haridwar (Uttarakhand), Agra, Shikohabad (Uttar Pradesh), Morena, Dholpur, Shivpuri and Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), were in the city to get some money as they were running out of cash. We laid a trap and apprehended them Sunday,” said Chand.

Apart from them, Naresh and Vijay Kumar were also apprehended. All carried a reward of Rs.50,000 each for their arrest. The other two were also arrested.

“Two sophisticated pistols, one country-made pistol, 16 live cartridges have been recovered from them,” added Chand.

During interrogation, Naveen told police that in 2005 he and Arvind were hired by Veermati of Papravat village to kill Virender over a property dispute and shot him dead Dec 24, 2005.

Naveen, Arvind, and Veermati were arrested in January 2006 but were released on bail.
