New Delhi: The government Monday removed Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi and his aide Lalit Bhanot from their posts following allegations of massive financial irregularities in holding the sporting event last year.
“Both of them have been removed,” Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs Ajay Maken told TimesNow news channel.
The move comes three months after the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games, clouded by allegations of corruption.
Maken said the government was “seeking legal opinion” on removing Kalmadi from the post of chairman of the Indian Olympic Association.
He added that the two had been eased out so that there was no obstacle to the probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the corruption charges.
