The two, identified as Jafar K. and Mohammad-Ali H., were hanged for their involvement in protests in 2009, the Tehran prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

The protests followed presidential elections which drew accusations of fraud.

In January 2009, another member of the PMOI and a monarchist dissident were executed due to their roles in the post-election protests.

The PMOI is classified in Iran as a terrorist organisation and is blamed for the killing of several Iranian officials in the last 30 years.

Also hanged Monday in the capital were three men convicted of raping a teenage boy, ISNA reported. The three were executed after their death sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court.
