Tehran : The United Nations on Monday strongly condemned the terrorist attack that killed dozens and injured more than 100 people at Moscow’s Domodedovo International Airport, and pledged to fight all forms of terrorism.
In a press statement, the Security Council “reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, and that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed.”
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was appalled by the bombing and condemned it as a “deplorable and unjustifiable act of violence against innocents,” his spokesman said in an earlier statement.
Both Ban and the Council conveyed their deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and people of the Russian Federation.
The Council members “reiterated their determination to combat all forms of terrorism, in accordance with its responsibilities under the Charter of the United Nations.”
According to media reports, Russian authorities have said that the bombing was most likely carried out by a suicide bomber and have increased security at Moscow’s commercial airports and other key transport facilities.
