New Delhi: Indian cricket board’s former vice-president Lalit Modi Friday launched a veiled attack against board secretary N.Srinivasan, saying Eden Garden’s loss of the World Cup match between India and England was a part of the dirty board politics.
“Sorry to see politics again – take away matches from Kolkata. I had restored them when I chaired the tours and fixtures committee. Thou secretary opposed it. Once again dirty tricks department wants to alienate the Fans,” Modi, who was suspended as the Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman, wrote on social networking site Twitter.
Eden Gardens was scrapped as the venue for the India-England match by the International Cricket Council (ICC) following an adverse report from its venue inspection team that visited Kolkata. The inspectors also visited four other venues earlier this week to review their readiness for the big event being hosted jointly by India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka from Feb 19 to April 2.
The Indian cricket board has asked the ICC to reconsider its decision of taking away the India-England World Cup match from the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata.
Besides the India-England encounter, Eden Gardens is supposed to host three other games — South Africa vs. Ireland (March 15), the Netherlands vs. Ireland (March 18), and Zimbabwe vs. Kenya (March 20).
