Chennai : The 45-km Chennai Metro Rail project will be completed ahead of the original schedule and the train service would begin in two years time, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said here Friday.
Speaking to reporters after reviewing the project’s progress, he said the first phase between Koyambedu and St. Thomas Mount would start in 2013.
According to him, works valued Rs.629 crore have been completed till date for the Rs.14,600 crore project.
The central and the state governments would contribute Rs.2,920 crore and Rs.3,034 crore respectively, and Rs.8,646 crore will be raised as a loan from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
