Panaji: Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik Saturday claimed that Chief Secretary Sanjiv Srivastava was sitting on a crucial file recommending a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the state’s police-politician-drug mafia nexus for nearly two months.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference here, Naik said that the home ministry had cleared the file recommending a CBI probe Nov 11 last year.
“I do not know what has happened to it. You ask the chief secretary. He will know,” said Naik, responding to questions as to why the state government had failed to formally request the CBI to take over the drug nexus case.
Naik’s son Roy, has been accused by the opposition, ruling legislators as well as civil society groups of being linked to the drug mafia in Goa.
Over the last one week, both Naik and Chief Minister Digambar Kamat have been passing the buck over the handing over of the drug nexus probe to the CBI.
While Kamat claimed Tuesday that he had received the file recommending a CBI probe “only a few days back”, Naik has claimed that the file was cleared nearly two months back.
