New Delhi : A fact-finding panel of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences will present its report Tuesday on allegations that one of the hospital’s junior doctors sodomised an eight-year-old boy suffering from brain tumour, an official said.
“A fact-finding committee is probing the matter. It will submit its report by Tuesday evening and if any one is found guilty he will be punished,” AIIMS’ public relations officer Y.K. Gupta told IANS Monday.
“The institute will take the harshest possible disciplinary action if anyone is found guilty,” Gupta added.
No police complaint has been filed so far, hospital authorities said.
Parents of the eight-year-old alleged Saturday that a doctor from the hospital sodomised the child who was admitted there for treatment.
The victim, a resident of northeast Delhi, was admitted to the neurosurgery ward for a brain tumour operation Jan 18.
“We wrote in the complaint whatever the child told us,” the child’s father told a TV channel.
The complaint registered by the father said that the doctor took the child to the duty room Jan 23 evening, a day after he was operated upon, and abused him sexually. The victim’s father said his son would be able to identify the doctor by face.
Even though the hospital authorities are not revealing the name of the junior doctor, sources say he has been unofficially asked not to report to duty. The accused is a final-year medical student on night duty at the intensive care unit of the AIIMS’s neurosurgery department.
