Five tonnes of sub-standard food destroyed in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi: The municipality of Abu Dhabi city has destroyed over five tonnes of food material for falling short of specifications and health standards of the United Arab Emirtates (UAE).

The action was undertaken as part of the municipality’s endeavour to curb commercial swindling and unlicensed activities of street hawkers, and protecting the local market from commercial fraud, an official said.

The destroyed materials included health supplements, cosmetics, personal care items, sexual stimuli, cleaning materials and detergents, and non-medical herbs, said Khalifa Mohammed Al Rumaithi, director of public health with municipality of Abu Dhabi city.
