The Shendan Healthy Food Co., China’s largest producer of egg products, filed the complaint Monday after the CNN listed pi dan, a traditional Chinese dish, as the most disgusting food, the Shanghai Daily reported.

The complaint, filed on behalf of Shendan chairman Liu Huaqiao and the company’s 3,000 employees, was the latest in a series of efforts aimed at defending the popular Chinese dish, according to the daily.

“CNN’s report, based on evaluations made by those who are not even consumers of pi dan, was obviously conducted in an unscientific way,” the company said in a letter.

“The conclusion it has come up with only proved its ignorance and arrogance, as well as a complete lack of respect for cultural traditions in other countries.”

The dish is made by preserving eggs in a mixture of clay, ash, salt, lime and rice hulls.

Pi dan reduces cholesterol by more than 20 percent and causes protein and fat to be better absorbed into the body, the daily said quoting the letter.
