Gilani referred to militant activities, especially in Dir, Bajaur, Mohmand on the Pakistan side and Kunar on the Afghan side.

The prime minister Wednesday said the Pakistan Army was exercising utmost restraint, despite repeated cross border raids by militants from the Afghan side into Pakistan, reported the Associated Press of Pakistan.

The situation needs to be quickly defused, he stressed.

Gilani stated that Pakistan had requested the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to immediately convene a meeting for border coordination between regional commanders.

He also asked Karzai to tell ISAF and Afghan military commanders to join Pakistan’s efforts to tackle the situation.

Karzai expressed his readiness to send ISAF and Afghan commanders for a meeting to address the issue.

He stressed that both the countries should remain in touch with each other and jointly take on militants.
