Court orders three-member board to examine Morani

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Delhi High Court Friday directed the G.B. Pant Hospital to set up a three-doctor board to examine the health of Cineyug Films founder Karim Morani, who is in jail for alleged involvement in the 2G spectrum allocation scam.

Justice Ajit Bharihoke passed the order after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) submitted that doctors at the hospital had declined to comment on the line of treatment and nature of Morani’s ailment without examining him.

The court was hearing an interim bail plea from Morani, who cited poor health.

“The medical superintendent of G.B. Pant Hospital is directed to constitute a board of three doctors to examine Morani and submit a medical report suggesting a line of treatment within three days,” said Bharihoke.

The court also directed the Tihar Jail superintendent to present Morani before the doctors of G.B. Pant Hospital at 11 a.m. July 11.

“It is made clear that if report is not submitted within three days, then medical superintendent is directed to appear before the court in person,” the judge said, adding that the jail superintendent and the medical officer at the Tihar Jail should take “care of him properly”.

The matter will be heard July 14.

The court had earlier rapped the CBI as it was not satisfied with Morani’s MRI report.

“The medical report, which is placed on record, has simply annexed the MRI and radiological test reports without any opinion of the doctors,” Bharihoke said.

Morani, named co-conspirator in the 2G scam, first appeared in the court May 24, a day after his anticipatory bail was dismissed.

The CBI named Morani a co-conspirator in a charge sheet after it traced an illegal money trail of Rs.214 crore in the scam.
