“We can not bring back life, but one member of each of the deceased’s family will get a job in the railways,” Trivedi told reporters after the swearing-in ceremony.

Trivedi also said that he will visit the accident site in Fatehpur district.

“I am going straight to the site of accident, my leader has directed me,” he said.

“We can not bring back life, one member of each such family will get a job. It’s a big challenge, but Mamata Banerjee has made things easier with her Vision 2020 document,” he added.

Trivedi was sworn in as the Railway Minister Tuesday after a cabinet reshuffle. The post was vacated after Mamata Banerjee took over as the Chief Minister of West Bengal.

In one of India’s worst train accidents, 14 coaches of the speeding Howrah-Kalka Mail jumped off the rails in Fatehpur Sunday, killing 69 people and injuring 249.
