New Delhi: Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) were used in the three blasts that rocked Mumbai Wednesday evening pointing to the explosions being the likely handiwork of terrorists, home ministry officials said.
“It seems to be a terror strike as initial investigations have confirmed that IED was used in the blasts,” a home ministry official said, after at least 10 people were killed and scores injured, some critically, in three blasts in Mumbai that took place within minutes of each other.
The blasts sparked minor fires and panic in India’s financial capital and the government ordered increase in security alert level.
Sources in the home ministry said a team of forensic experts and National Investigation Agency (NIA) sleuths were being rushed to the city to collect evidences from the blast sites.
They would join the Maharashtra Anti-terrorism Squad (ATS) in the investigation, they said.
The sources said it was too early to point out suspects even though the needle of suspicion was pointing towards Indian Mujahideen, affiliated to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba militant outfit.
