Kolkata: As multiple blasts rocked Mumbai, Kolkata Police Wednesday warned of a likelihood of terrorists taking shelter in the city and asked landlords to verify the antecedents of tenants before renting out their premises.

An official release said that police have received reports of terrorists and anti-social elements seeking hideouts in various residential areas of the city.

“There is a likelihood of breach of peace and danger to human life and safety and injury to public property,” the release said.

Police asked the landlords to check the antecedents of prospective tenants so that terrorists and anti-social elements do not take shelter in the city.

A violation of the directive would invite punitive action, police warned.

When contacted, Joint Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Jawed Shamim told IANS: “We are always in a state of high alert. All entry and exit points to the city are well guarded.”

He said patrolling has been heightened after the Mumbai blasts.
