Lucknow: Waseem Rizvi was elected as Chairman, Shia Central Board of Waqfs (SCBW) unopposed on Wednesday. Rizvi has earlier served as Chairman of the board in 2009. He is stated to be close to eminent Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawwad.
Earlier, a meeting was held in the morning at the residence of senior cabinet minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui to chalk out strategy for the election. The meeting was attended by most of the members. During the meeting, Siddiqui proposed the name of Waseem Rizvi and it was accepted by all the members. Later, Rizvi filed his nominations in Bapu Bhawan and was declared unopposed with no other candidature.
The election was necessitated following the resignation of outgoing chairman Prof Kamaluddin Akbar. However, the SCBW is facing a lock out with the employees on war path demanding their due salaries.
