Judicial panel to probe Baloch leader’s killing

By IANS,

Islamabad : Pakistan has decided to set up a judicial commission to probe the killing of Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Bugti.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan said the judicial commission will be headed by a judge of the Supreme Court.

Nawab Akbar Bugti, leader of the Bugti tribe, who was the driving force behind a anti-government rebellion in Balochistan, was killed in a massive military operation in 2006.

“Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and the federal cabinet took decision that a judicial commission headed by judge of the Supreme Court will investigate the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti,” Associated Press of Pakistan quoted Awan as saying.

She said that Gilani has directed that over 6,700 posts of the federal government will be filled up through the Balochistan quota.

The minister said that the step would give a message to the Balochistan’s youth that government was serious to address their problems.
