New Delhi : The Supreme Court Friday declined to entertain a petition seeking stay on any government action on the report of Justice B.N. Srikrishna Committee on Telangana statehood issue.
The petitioner also sought declaring as unconstitutional the demand for carving out a separate Telangana state out of Andhra Pradesh.
The apex court bench of Chief Justice S.H. Kapadia, Justice K.S. Panicker Radhakrishnan and Justice Swatanter Kumar described the plea by S. Rama Chandra Rao as “pre-mature” as there was no such declaration.
When the petitioner insisted with his plea, the court said that “we can’t cure everything”.
Besides seeking immediate stay on any action on the five-member committee’s report, the petitioner sought the court’s direction to the Andhra Pradesh government to deal with the demand for a Telangana state “strictly and impartially”.
The committee headed by former Supreme Court judge gave its recommendations after about 11 months of consultation process in the state. The report was released by the home ministry in January.
