New Delhi : The Indian Railways Friday reported an increase of 7.06 percent in freight traffic volumes it carried during the first quarter of the current fiscal at 233.77 million tonnes as compared to 218.35 million tonnes carried during the corresponding period last year.
“The freight carried shows an increase of 15.42 million tonnes over the freight traffic of 218.35 million tonnes carried during the corresponding period last year,” the Railways ministry said in a statement.
According to the statement, the freight traffic volumes increased by 6.39 percent in June at 76.54 million tonnes.
“There is an increase of 4.60 million tonnes over the actual freight traffic of 71.94 million tonnes carried by the Indian Railways during the same period last year,” the statement said.
