The protesters, mainly local businessmen, residents and employees working in the gold and diamond jewellery establishments, were also accompanied by many children, youths and women, who trooped out to express their outrage.

Many of the participants in the four-km-long human chain said that it was high time the government thought of the security of the common people instead of just bigwigs and VIPs.

College students said that they were fed up of politics and they wanted peace in the country, but such recurring terror attacks are not good for the nation’s progress.

The participants carried posters and placards with handwritten slogans expressing their disgust at terror attacks and condemning terrorists.

They also paid homage to the victims who perished in the triple blasts Wednesday evening at Opera House, Zaveri Bazar and Dadar Kabutarkhana. While 19 people have died so far, another 129 injured are undergoing treatment at various city hospitals.

Zaveri Bazar, a gold hub which has been targeted for the third time in the past 18 years, and the diamond hub of Opera House, together account for nearly Rs.10 billion turnover per day.
