The officers’ assistance to the dealers led to the failure of anti-drug operations in the city, Bogota comptroller Mario Solano Calderon said.

The municipal police department carried out the investigation that led to the officers’ firings, said the police commander in the Bogota locality of Kennedy, Jose Baquero.

Kennedy, located in the western section of Bogota, is one of the most populous areas of the Colombian capital, with an estimated 1.5 million residents.

“The police department will not tolerate corrupt officers,” Baquero said.

The department will continue to use tips from citizens in its crime-fighting efforts, the police commander said.
