The Chief Minister said that the state government had forwarded a letter requesting to open a consulate in the state. When the ambassador Mr Owais informed of the interest of the budget airlines ‘Fly Dubai’ to begin service to Kerala, Mr Chandy informed him that the permission of the central government was needed for it.

Ministers PK Kunjalikkutty and KC Joseph, and NRI businessman MA Yusufali were also present in the talks.

The Consulate is expected to help better the relations between the two countries, as well as help more in the industrial and trade sectors. It will be more helpful to Kerala, as a large number of Keralites are working in the UAE. The beginning of the budget airline service will also be highly helpful, as now people have only very few options and there are many complaints against the Air India which is the major operating service.
