Bengal to create 6,900 new home department posts

Kolkata : The West Bengal government Wednesday decided to create 6,900 new posts in the home department, majority of them for absorption in the Kolkata Police, whose area has been extended recently by addition of nine police station areas.

As many as 668 of the posts will be created in the Maoist-hit Jhargram police district, state Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee said here after a meting of the state cabinet.

“In the first phase, 1,700 personnel will be recruited,” said Chatterjee.

The cabinet also decided to create 700 posts in the finance department to ensure better collection of revenue.

Three Central Bureau of Investigation courts would also be established, two of them starting functioning this month and another in December.

For effective monitoring of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, a committee headed by Chief Secretary Samar Ghosh has been formed for a comprehensive evaluation and expansion of the project.
